🦙 From Alpaca Fleece to Beautiful Yarn 🧶
This year I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely lady who showed me just how much time, patience and skill goes into turning an alpaca fleece into beautiful, soft yarn.
Normally, I send my alpaca fleeces away to a specialist mill, where they are sorted, processed and spun into wool. But this year, I gave one of my fleeces to someone who hand processed the entire fleece herself — from start to finish — and spun it into yarn by hand.
I honestly had no idea how much work was involved! 😮
From carefully sorting the fleece and removing anything that shouldn't be there, to washing, drying, preparing the fibres, carding and finally spinning it into yarn, it is an incredibly long and painstaking process.
And the result? Absolutely beautiful. ❤️
The yarn is so incredibly soft, and knowing that it has come from one of our very own alpacas makes it even more special.
It has really opened my eyes to the amazing journey an alpaca fleece takes — from the alpaca in the field 🦙🌿, through many hours of careful handwork, to a beautiful ball of natural fibre ready to be turned into something wonderful.
A huge thank you to this lovely lady for giving me the opportunity to see the process for myself and for turning one of our fleeces into something so beautiful.
It has certainly given me a whole new appreciation for the incredible amount of work that goes into hand-spun alpaca yarn. ❤️🦙
From our alpacas in the field… to beautiful yarn, one fleece at a time. 🧶✨
Many thanks to Tasha!
