Alpaca Safety and Information Sheet

   PORTLAND ALPACAS SAFETY SHEET

Please be aware that the walk is over uneven terrain, so it is unsuitable for those with mobility issues and pushchairs (We can arrange a shorter walk on the flat if requested).

The walk will be supervised by a suitably trained Alpaca handler. We go on a planned route that the Alpaca’s are familiar with, but as with all animals sometimes the unexpected can occur, this sheet will help you understand and prepare for all eventualities.

We cannot allow spectators on the experience for insurance purposes, an additional ticket is available at a cost of £10.00 if you wish to join in with the walk.

All children under the age of 12 must share an Alpaca with a responsible adult, two reins will be attached to the alpaca for this. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

When bringing young children, we ask that you are confident that your child can walk  the whole distance of this experience, you must have both hands free to control the Alpaca.

SAFETY GUIDELINES (WE WILL TALK THIS THROUGH WITH YOU) PLEASE FOLLOW THESE GUIDLINES

Never stand behind the Alpaca, sometimes they do kick out, so always remember to stay by their shoulder.
Please try and stay calm when you are with the Alpacas, please do not let your children shout and jump around them as this might frighten them.

Alpacas don’t really like their heads being touched, but they do like a nice stroke on their neck, but you must approach them in a calm manner.

Alpacas do sometimes spit at each other but very rarely spit at humans.

Never put your hand through the loop of the rein or wrap the rein around your hand.

If you are unsure about you Alpaca please
ask for assistance from the guide.

If your Alpaca spooks at something they generally just do a small side skip and then carry on walking as normal, if you do not feel confident or it scares you, it is ok to drop the lead and a guide will assist you. There is no need
to panic.

Please wear sensible footwear walking boots but wellingtons are ideal. The walks do take place over some rough terrain and can sometimes be muddy, footwear therefore can get muddy and we will not be held responsible for this.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your walk. If you are delayed please inform us ASAP and we can try and wait for you. Regrettably if we leave without you because you miss the agreed time slot, it should be assumed you will not be reimbursed for your walk.

We ask you to give us at least 48 hours for a cancellation.

WE HAVE A STRICTLY NO DOG POLICY.

MOBILE PHONES - Please have your phones on silent when walking the Alpaca’s. This is so your Alpaca does not get distracted if it rings, you are most welcome to take as many photos as you like, the guide will be happy to take photos for you. Please feel free to share your pictures on our face book page Portland Alpacas. We will also take photos that will be posted on our page, please let us
know if you do not want your photo taken.

If the weather is unsuitable and we have to cancel the walk, we will call you and reschedule or reimburse you.

I have read and understood the information provided on the safety sheet
